SALT LAKE CITY, UT – The Lee Kay Center in Salt Lake City, Utah was taken over by youth shooters Saturday, March 16. 100 youth shooters and 51 adult shooters from Utah and Idaho participated in the second annual Saint Patrick’s shoot hosted by the Riverton Shooting Club. This event is one of the required events for UTYESS High School Lettering program.
The day started for the youth when they faced 100 American Trap Singles. Trophies were awarded to first through third place in Novice, Junior, Jr Varsity, Varsity, and Ladies categories.
In between events the youth were surprised by an announcement that one of them would be the lucky winners of an African hunt donated by Sediba Nkwe Hunting Safari’s. The hunt is a five-day hunt and included one impala, one Common Blesbuck, and one Warthog. The retail value of the package was stated at $3,765. The lucky winner was selected based on random draw score from the day’s singles event. Five youth athletes had the draw score so a shoot off was in order. In the end, the hunt was awarded to Kaleb H. of the Wasatch Wing and Clay Youth Shooting Team.
"When they drew 79 I was surprised," Said Keleb H. Winner of the African Hunt Safari. "When I saw my competition, I thought 'I’m not winning this!' and when I won, I thought 'Oh my gosh, I’m going to AFRICA!!!'"
The day then proceeded with lunch, and 50 handicap-wobbles Trap. The youth shot wobble trap at a handicap yardage that was determined based on their score from the previous Trap Singles event. The final even consisted of 51 of the youth’s parents and coaches competing at the 27-yard line for their own set of trophies.
