PLEASANT GROVE, UT – Utah Youth Education in Shooting Sports (UTYESS) announced today that it was donating $25,000 to several of Utah’s youth shotgun shooting teams. The donated funds were provided by Larry and Brenda Potterfield to assist in team fundraising efforts. UTYESS matched team fundraising dollars that each team donated to their earmarked MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment. This program encouraged youth shotgun shooting teams to be engaged in fundraising and securing the future of youth shooting sports. The funds donated today were sent to MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment accounts.
Including today’s donation, UTYESS teams raised over $250,000 for youth shotgun shooting sports throughout the state. The majority of these funds are held in endowment accounts at the MidwayUSA Foundation, a public charity working to help communities and organizations fund their youth shooting teams. Each shooting team has its own earmarked endowment. The current combined endowment account balances for UTYESS teams is $1,510,600.91. Those funds originated from team fundraisers, the Matching Program offered by the MidwayUSA Foundation, and quarterly earnings also contributed through the MidwayUSA Foundation.
Once each year, teams with a MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment are eligible to request a cash grant of 5% of their endowment balance to use for expenses like ammunition, travel, targets, uniforms, entry fees, operating expenses, and more! Additionally, MidwayUSA Foundation makes generous non-cash grants available to UTYESS and teams each year. In 2020 UTYESS teams were awarded:
These items above also assisted in fundraising efforts.
“It is crucial for shooting teams to be engaged in self-preservation and fundraising in order for them to remain successful,” said Brian Beard, President, USA Youth Education in Shooting Sports. “Utah has done great work fundraising for their teams, and providing this match was one way an organization can add some incentive to engage in fundraising.”
