PLEASANT GROVE, UT – In 2018, the Utah Scholastic Clay Target Program (Utah SCTP) raised $318,831.73 for youth shotgun shooting sports throughout the state. These majority of these funds are held in endowment accounts at the MidwayUSA Foundation, a public charity working to help communities and organizations fund their youth shooting teams. Each shooting team has their own earmarked endowment.  The current combined endowment account balances for Utah SCTP teams is $1,100,928.80. Those funds originated from team fundraisers, the Matching Program offered by the MidwayUSA Foundation, and quarterly earnings, also contributed through the MidwayUSA Foundation.

A portion of the funds generated in 2018 were from a $15,000 donation from Larry and Brenda Potterfield to Utah SCTP to assist in team fundraising efforts.  Utah SCTP matched team fundraising dollars that each team donated to their earmarked MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment. This program encouraged youth shotgun shooting teams to be engaged in fundraising and securing the future of youth shooting sports.

“I think it is amazing that there are people out there that are willing to contribute their time and money into youth shooting sports to help kids like me improve and continue to enjoy the sport,” Kyle White, UTYESS Youth Leader, Age 16.

Once each year, teams with a MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment are eligible to request a cash grant of 5% of their endowment balance to use for expenses like ammunition, travel, targets, uniforms, entry fees, operating expenses and more!

Additionally, MidwayUSA Foundation makes generous non-cash grants available to Utah SCTP and teams each year. In 2019 Utah SCTP and teams were awarded:

  • 15 Firearms
  • 9 Air Rifles
  • 40 Browning Knife Sets
  • 2 Orca Coolers
  • 4 Bushnell Game Cams

These items above also assisted in fundraising efforts.

“We are extremely grateful to Larry and Brenda Potterfield, the MidwayUSA Foundation, the NRA Foundation, the Amateur Trapshooting Association, the Justin Corbet Memorial Shooting Sports Foundation, and the countless other donors and volunteers that support youth shooting sports in Utah,” Brian Beard, President, Utah SCTP. “Without their tremendous support, youth shooting sports would not be growing like it is today.”
